City of Alexandria

The City of Alexandria, Virginia is one of the best places to live and work on the East Coast. In 2007, Alexandria was recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of the "Best Places to Do Business," while Forbes recognized the State of Virginia as the "Best Place to Do Business" for the second year in a row.

Alexandria's strong business core is anchored by a large concentration of technology companies, the United States Patent and Trade Office, multiple Federal agencies, the fourth-largest number of professional associations in the country, and a tourism industry that hosts nearly two million visitors a year. Businesses, associations, and nonprofits are all drawn to Alexandria because the city offers an environment rich in history, charm, and culture. This beautiful setting is located just minutes from Washington, D.C., Capitol Hill, and many other Federal agencies.

A strong and stable economy is not all Alexandria has to offer. Alexandria is home to some of the United States' most important historical sites, including George Washington's River Farm and the Gadsby Tavern, where both Washington and Thomas Jefferson entertained guests. Alexandria is also full of culture and fine dining. One of the metropolitan area's largest concentrations of international restaurants can be found in Old Town. The Torpedo Factory Art Center, located on the city's waterfront, gives people the chance to meet more than 200 professional artists. The city's Farmer's Market is the nation's oldest, meeting at the same site in Market Square for 241 years. The City's Del Ray/Rosemont areas offer beautiful tree-lined streets, eclectic shops, and various annual community events. The city's West End is filled with vibrant neighborhoods and will be the site of a new Landmark Center, which will serve as a major shopping and dining attraction in the area.
