Motorcoach Rules and Regulations with Map

Motorcoach Loading & Unloading

Due to the high volume of motorcoach traffic, parking is allowed in these areas for only as long as it takes to actually load or unload. (Alexandria Police Department will strictly enforce).

  1. Waterfront/Torpedo Factory Art Center: Unit block of King Street (north side - west bound).
  2. Market Square: Two spaces on King Street (north side - west bound) from the corner of Fairfax Street to the center of the square.
  3. Gadsby's Tavern: Directly in front of Gadsby's Tavern Restaurant/Museum. 134-138 North Royal Street (west side - south bound).
  4. Christ Church: 100 block of North Washington Street in front of the church (west side - south bound). This is an HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lane from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and no parking is allowed; restrictions will be strictly enforced.
  5. The Lyceum: 200 block of South Washington Street (west side - south bound). This is an HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lane from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and no parking is allowed; restrictions will be strictly enforced.
  6. Friendship Firehouse: 100 block of South Alfred Street (west side - south bound).

Motorcoach Parking

Due to the sensitivity of our historic architecture, idling is not permitted when parked. Engines must be turned off. Parking is permitted at:

  1. George Washington Masonic Memorial: Contact 800.388.9119 to purchase a permit.
  2. Robinson Terminal: 500 block of North Union Street (north and south sides - north and south bound); limited parking on a first-come, first-served basis.

NEW! All motorcoaches staying for a period of 24 hours or more are required to park at the G.W. Masonic Memorial. Overnight permits are $35.00 for up to 24 hours. Daytime only parking is available for motorcoaches parking between 9am to 11pm at the cost of $10.00 per day. Permits must be obtained in advance from our Ramsay House Visitors. Please call 800.388.9119 from 9am to 5pm for more information or to purchase a permit or submit our online application.

American Bus AssociationThe ACVA is proud to announce that starting in May 2008 the proceeds from the sale of overnight motorcoach parking permits will be donated to the American Bus Association Foundation scholarship fund, which provides financial assistance to students working towards a degree in travel and tourism.

Motorcoaches traveling on the George Washington Parkway are required to obtain a permit. There is no charge for a permit and they may be issued for a one-time usage or on an annual basis. Please contact the National Park Service at 703.289.2516.

Please be aware of parking regulations. Violations may result in a fine. Please read the signs before you park. Parking limits are strictly enforced.
