New Museums and Memorials

Two new state-of-the-art museums opened in our region in fall of 2006. The National Museum of the Marine Corps allows you to experience the trials and triumphs of life as a Marine. Only minutes from Old Town, The Ford Orientation Center and the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center at Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens introduces you to the real George Washington with state-of-the art technology and interactive exhibits.

Overlooking the Pentagon and adjacent to Arlington Cemetery is the newest addition to the region's skyline — the U.S. Air Force Memorial. It features three stainless-steel spires soaring skyward, the tallest reaching 270 feet. Its design represents the flying spirit of the Air Force with the spires evoking the image of the precision "bomb burst" maneuver performed by the Air Force's Thunderbird Demonstration Team.
