Art Festival Alert

The annual Festival of the Arts returns to Old Town the weekend of September 13 and 14! Here's some helpful information for you, your clients and your customers.

  • The festival, produced by Howard Alan Events, features more than 200 juried artists from around the country. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, September 13, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 14. It will stretch from Washington Street to Union Street.
  • The King Street Trolley will have a modified route during the art festival. It will travel east on King Street to Washington Street, where it will make a left and stop to let off passengers. It will then make a left onto Cameron and return to King Street, heading west to the King Street Metro.
  • Two more events will make the festival even more appealing: Christ Church hosts Children in the Churchyard, featuring a moon bounce, refreshments and a respite area, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. From noon to 4 p.m. Saturday only, the Torpedo Factory Art Center hosts Art Activated where the visuals arts come alive with demonstrations, hands-on activities, and the award-winning Bosma Dance performing at 2 p.m.
  • Encourage your customers to stay in Old Town after the festival to catch a great concert! The popular Al Williams will performance contemporary pop and jazz at Market Square from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
  • The ACVA office has a supply of Festival of the Arts posters for you to display and Fall 2008 event-calendar brochures for you to hand out to customers to encourage them to return to Alexandria. Contact Merrie Morris to get your hands on these supplies at mmorris@FunSide.com
